Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner set a new record for the quickest goal in international soccer history.He scored the goal against Slovakia in just seven seconds.
Shot of 25 meters Straight into Goal
At 24, the Leipzig forward made history in a friendly game in Bratislava on Saturday. Starting from the kickoff, Baumgartner broke through the host’s defense and fired a shot from 25 meters (82 feet). The ball beated goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and got straight into net.
2-0 Victory
After the match, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Austria, Baumgartner shared with ORF some remarks. He said “We’ve attempted this kickoff strategy before, sprinting from the start at full risk. Everything fell into place this time, allowing me to make that run.”
“It’s incredibly exciting, and I’m thrilled. Scoring in such a manner is truly remarkable,” he added.
Broke the previous Record
The Austrian Football Association hailed the goal as the fastest in international football’s history. He surpassed the previous record set by Germany’s Lukas Podolski, who scored within seven seconds against Ecuador in 2013.
Worth the Ticket Price
Austria’s coach, Ralf Rangnick, remarked, “Getting off to such a start was incredible, and the goal alone was probably worth the ticket price.”
Marking First International Goal
On the same day, Germany’s Florian Wirtz also netted a goal within seven seconds in a friendly against France in Lyon. He lead Germany to a 2-0 win. Wirtz, playing for Leverkusen, delighted fans with a fantastic shot. He flew under the crossbar, marking his first international goal.
Happened So Fast
Reflecting on the moment, Wirtz told ZDF, a German broadcaster, “It happened so fast, I don’t think anyone really grasped what had occurred. We were all quite astonished, but obviously very happy.”
“This is the best way you could possibly start a match.”

The fastest goal in World Cup history was scored by Turkey’s Hakan Sukur against South Korea in 2002, just 11 seconds into the game.
