The Indian Premier League is starting today, a match between the defending champions and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take place in Chennai.
The encounter between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (CSK) in Chennai will not only usher in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 but also a new dawn for the defending champions with iconic MS Dhoni handing over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Dhoni is expected to retire at the end of this season and it seems the unanticipated move, just a day before the start of a new season, has been taken for a smooth transition.
The Super Kings are five-time champions, and a sixth title will put them in a space where no team has entered so far, not even Mumbai Indians, who also have five IPL trophies. On the other hand, the Royal Challengers, who recently grabbed their maiden title through the Women’s Premier League, will be eager to add a first IPL title to their shelf.
Last night the opening ceremony kick started the IPL 2024 in style. The Bollywood star Akshay Kumar entertained the crowd with his amazing moves. He was joined by his fellow actor Tiger Shroff who also performed at the recently concluded Women’s Premier League in Bengaluru. The duo will be seen together in the upcoming Ali Abbas Zafar directorial – Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
Preparations are in full swing at the Chepauk Stadium, which previously had the privilege to host the IPL opener several times. The tournament organiser and the stadium authority will look to make the occasion more exquisite and entertaining this year. The opening ceremony is expected to feature a lesser show, which was earlier witnessed during the ICC ODI World Cup across venues.
