Show Cause has been given to Amir over promoting Betting Companies.

Amir has recently taken his retirement back and made a comeback in Pakistan’s side against New Zealand.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a warning to fast bowler Mohammad Amir for endorsing surrogate betting companies. The Daily Jang reported on Wednesday that Amir was seen promoting a betting firm on social media after coming out of retirement.

Amir was informed by PCB that signing contracts with betting companies is banned, so he should not be involved in such promotions. Amir then informed the board that the contract with the betting company was signed before he reversed his retirement, but the company will not use his pictures for promotion going forward. It is worth noting that Amir faced social media criticism after he was seen promoting a betting company.

According to sources, Amir’s one-year contract, which included 60 social media posts, with the betting company was worth Rs12.5 million.

In 2010, Amir, along with Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt, were banned from international cricket for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to a spot-fixing case. Additionally, Amir served half of a six-month custodial sentence in young offender’s institutes in Feltham and Dorset.

In 2016, Mohammad Amir returned to cricket and later helped Pakistan win the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. In the final, Pakistan defeated India by 180 runs, with Amir playing a pivotal role by taking the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli.

Despite his success, Amir retired from international cricket at the age of 28 in December 2020, citing mental torture from the management. However, he came out of retirement and has been included in the national squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand.

The series will consist of three T20Is at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on 18, 20, and 21 April. After that, both teams will move to Lahore for the remaining two T20Is on 25 and 27 April.

Throughout his career, Amir has played 36 Tests, 61 One-Day Internationals, and 50 T20s for Pakistan.
